Port Aransas is the only established town on Mustang Island, reached by State Highway 361 or the free TxDOT ferry from Aransas Pass, which runs around the clock.
It's a town of second homes: Census estimates count about 36% of Port Aransas homes as seasonal or vacation homes, and its median home value, about $589,000, is the highest around the bay. Port Aransas was also one of the hardest-hit towns when Hurricane Harvey came ashore in 2017.
